This unit does work but you need to be mindful of cleaning the filter out regularly if it stops working. Mine stopped working well after just a couple of days, the water coming out in a dribble and I thought it wasn't very good and I would have to send it back. I decided to open it and clean out the little pump and the sponge was very clogged. When cleaned it worked very well. The lid of the unit is quite difficult to get off. You need to prise the side panels that look like handles to loosen the sides. The power unit works well and I like that it comes with a charger so on dim days you can top up the battery. The solar panel is big enough, the post it comes with is not very stable. I have lain mine flat on the shed roof and move it when its windy. It works fine on bright days. The UV works well. There seem not to be many solar units like this on the market which is a shame. I think some improvements could be made as the sponge does get clogged quickly, maybe that unit could be bigger to allow for a larger sponge. The pump is really the same size as the little ones you can buy for a water feature. I was going to do a water change for my pond before I stuck this unit in, but decided that the filter should clean it. However I would recommend a water change to help it along before you put the filter in. Overall I am pleased with it.

I run the pump for a couple of hours twice per day. There are only a few small fish in the pond so the pump/filter seems to be doing a good job of keeping the water clear.
